My husband and I absolutely fell in love with Chester, and we truly think much of that came from the kindness and hospitality we experienced at the Stone Hearth Inn. Vicky (I hope I have your name right!) made us feel so genuinely welcomed from the moment we arrived. She and her equally talented children, who own and operate the eatery, gave us such a wonderful impression not only of the inn, but of Vermont as a whole. The inn itself is historic, peaceful, and beautiful — exactly the kind of place that makes you slow down and appreciate where you are. One of our favorite parts of the stay was waking up each morning to enjoy the delicious breakfasts prepared by the chefs at the eatery. Everything felt thoughtful, warm, and personal. We can’t thank Vicky and her family enough for such a memorable welcome to Vermont all the way from Texas. We really enjoyed our 5-night stay at Stone Hearth around New Year's.  It was a perfect choice for my family of four for our winter vacation/adventure.  Vicky, the inn-keeper/owner, is very kind, helpful, and accommodating.  When we weren't skiing, snow-shoeing, sledding, or exploring nearby Vermont towns, we savored much-needed "downtime" and relaxed in the cozy and inviting common rooms downstairs -- the game room/library, the sitting room by the pellet-stove, the dining room with the scenic wintery views.  We appreciated the history and character of the inn, built in 1810, with its original wide floor boards, beams, columns, and other architectural elements that contribute to its charm.  We enjoyed breakfast, freshly prepared to order, and the books and board games that were on hand. Vicky's daughter and son-in-law also run the adjacent bar & restaurant, which we thoroughly enjoyed as a relaxing Friday dinner with beer/wine. If you're looking for a modern and chic hotel, this isn't for you.  But if you are looking for a cozy, inviting, family-owned & operated inn that's conveniently located if you're interested in skiing and other winter activities, as well as exploration of nearby towns, and you prefer historic establishments with character, then Stone Hearth Inn is right for you.
